I did quite a lot of research when searching for a computer. I wanted the most bang for my buck without sacrificing any quality. I searched for reviews on this HP Pavilion P6230Y and saw that CNET had a pretty negative review of it (2.5 out of 5). But I just want to make clear for everyone that reads the same review, that yes it was tested against the Asus Essentio CG5270, which CNET mentions beat it in most tests, HOWEVER, that was when they were comparing the prices at 630 and 680. I bought this HP on amazon for $479 refurbished (I know some people are anti refurb, but not me, almost every electronic I own is refurb and very very little problems so far. PLUS, all my products have a warranty so I love the money I save, and the security I have with the warranty, but thats another discussion.)
Anyway I want to challenge most people to find a computer with all these specs for this price, you may find them, but I promise you there arent many. First off I couldnt find the Asus Essentio mentioned above anywhere close to the HP price on Amazon. As far as any other comparable computer the prices just dont compare.
This computer offers a ton of power for the buck, here are the specs…
-2.6GHz AMD Phenom II Quad(X4 810) processor
-8GB Of Memory (upgradable to 16GB)
-750GB Hard drive
-DDR3 memory (this is twice as fast as computers that have DDR2, thus enabling higher bus rates and higher peak rates of data)
- Windows 7 (newest operating system for PC)
I looked all over the web and had a tough time finding those specs for this price. I have read some complaints about video cards being a little week for gamers, but most mentioned adding their own. To be honest most video cards are too weak for the serious gamer, so most people need to upgrade the standard one included in the computer anyway. However from what I see this video card is better than a lot out there that come standard, so take it for what its worth. Because many gamers said it was perfect, but hey, depends on how serious you are I guess.
You will not be dissapointed in this computer, its perfect for the average user…for those experts out there, or who need more out of their computer than the average person, there is plenty of room to upgrade.

Well,it is been only a week and half since I purchased this computer, and I am pleased with it,it’s fast and so far all the task ordered have been done without problems, for this price this computer is definitely worth it,the 8gb ram is more that you could need plus it has ample room for expansion,it came well packaged and even though it’s a refurb looks like brand new, plus is quiet,if you are into heavy gaming this PC will not let down(as long as you replace the graphics card and the PSU as well)the one that came with it is a Radeon HD 4200 which is not all that bad for certain modern games. As a matter of fact I purchased Left 4 dead 2 and this PC runs it flawlessly.

You’ll be amazed by this desktop on it’s specifications for the price that you’re getting. Just search up NY549AAR on HP’s site and you’ll see the full specs of it, but here’s the bottomline important ones:
1)Phenom II x4 (Quadcore) running @ 2.66 Ghz
2)8 Gigs of DDR3 Ram (not so sure of speed)
3)Windows 7 Home 64 bit Home Premium Edition
4)AMD 785G chipset mother board w/ HD 4200 integrated gpu
5)Enough space to upgrade
a)for one 16x PCIe 2.0
I wanted to get an enthusiast PC for the lowest price but for these specs at the cost of close to $500, that’s pretty cheap if you ask me. I’m planning on upgrading the 300W PSU to add a video card but as far as I’ve seen, the HD 4200 integrated GPU has done great. All Directx9 games like HL2 was a piece of cake running @ ~60-120fps while I was playing it on HL2’s recommended settings (seems like a medium quality settings) with no Anti Aliasing.
I tested the comp with Supreme Commander 2 and I was intrigued that it ran at 15fps @ 1360×768 reso low quality even though the game still has the same performance as mid range graphics cards.
Processing is really fast and is perfect for the multitasking job. I haven’t done any test for how fast it is but I’ve seen how the cpu can convert song files so quickly compared to a dualcore.
As for multi-tasking, this computer is perfect. I can have 20 windows open, surf the net, play my music and play my game on one half of the screen with NO lag. Memory is always fresh on the 8 gigs DDR and is not used as virtual memory (which causes severe slow downs usually) and as far as I’ve used, I’ve barely even used over 3 gigs of memory. At least I have the confidence that the system is ready for future programming and use.
Overall, the system is the best bang for the buck PC that you can get.
